While this is titled Grandma's cobbler, it is not my grandma's. It
belongs to a former coworker of mine. Blackberry cobbler is my brother-in-law's favorite dessert. He requested it for his birthday, and I admit I was a little worried. I had never made a cobbler of any type, so I was unsure where to start or the best recipe. I searched all over Pinterest and was a little overwhelmed with the various ways it could be made, even more so since I was still pretty new to baking.
My former supervisor Sherry was always sweet to me and brought little goodies she would cook at home. I remember it being some of the best food I've ever tasted and the stories she would tell that went along with a particular recipe were always fun to listen to. I knew it would be her if anyone had the perfect cobbler recipe.
I finally reached out to Sherry, and she had it. She knew I was a beginner at baking, so she told me the easiest would be a cobbler that the crust rises through. She was so right! This cobbler is probably one of the easiest things I have ever baked.
One of the things I like about cooking is that you can change a recipe to how it may fit your needs or wants. When I first read this recipe, I thought, "Man! That seems like a ton of sugar!" Over time in my cooking and baking journey, I have learned that I am in control of what I make, and if I want to cut back, I can cut back. I will admit that I have sometimes cut back on the sugar in this recipe, which has still turned out great. My family can't even tell the difference.
